Marble (3D carved), wear-resistant paint
Artist’s Website
Jiao's installation takes the form of a large, circular platform, meticulously crafted to measure 4.6 meters in diameter. It is constructed from 3D carved marble, ensuring a deeply textural and enduring presence. The surface features an intricate mosaic composed of numerous colorful, swirling circular motifs—reminiscent of celestial maps, ancient seals, or mandalas—achieved using durable, wear-resistant paint.
These vibrant patterns are set against a base that mimics the rough, organic appearance of natural river stones. The entire piece is subtly framed by a low, circular stainless steel railing, which visually defines the installation as a sacred space for pause and reflection.
Titled "The Winding Path," the artwork functions as a dedicated contemplative space. It is strategically placed on a gentle rise overlooking the surrounding forest and the nearby lake, creating a perfect balance between intimate detail and expansive vista.
The installation invites visitors to literally step off the trail and onto the platform. Here, the complexity of the mosaic beneath their feet—representing the twists, turns, and rich patterns of life’s journey—contrasts sharply with the simple, serene horizon of the water and trees. By engaging with this contrast, guests are encouraged to momentarily detach from their pace and find introspection, absorbing both the intricate artistry of Jiao’s work and the profound, quiet beauty of the Concord Resort landscape.
